Privacy policy

Singing Stairs collects no data about anyone. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no network connection at all. This page says so in the detail Apple and any parent would want.

Effective 9 October 2026 · applies to the Singing Stairs iPhone app

The policyJosh Greenman, developer

What is collected

Nothing. The app does not ask for a name, an email address, a birthday, a phone number or a location. There is no sign-in and no account. It does not read contacts, photos, the calendar or any other data on the phone.

The microphone

Two of the fourteen games, Sing together and Sing it back, listen while they are open, because guessing which note a child just sang is the point of them. Sound from the microphone is examined on the phone, in memory, purely to estimate the pitch of the note being sung. It is never recorded to a file, never saved, never sent anywhere and never heard by anyone. It is discarded frame by frame as the game runs, and the microphone is released as soon as the game closes. No other game in the app opens the microphone.

What stays on the phone

The app remembers a few settings and a count of stars earned: which octave and instrument were chosen, whether sharps and flats are on, whether letter names or solfege are shown, which letters are awake, how far along the mystery singer's levels the player has got, and the eight notes of the tune made in Make a tune. All of it lives in the app's own storage on the device, is visible only to the app, and is deleted when the app is deleted. None of it identifies anyone.

Nothing leaves the device

The app makes no network requests. Every piano recording, every song and every image is bundled inside it, which is why it works with the phone in airplane mode. There are no third-party software kits of any kind: no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising network, no social sign-in. There are no links out of the app, so a child cannot be taken to a web page or a store from inside it.

No advertising, no purchases

The app carries no advertising of any kind, including contextual advertising. It contains no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. It does not promote other apps.

Children

Singing Stairs is made for children roughly five to eight years old. Because it collects no personal information whatsoever, there is nothing to disclose, sell, share or delete, and nothing that could be used to contact or track a child. This is intended to satisfy the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act in the United States and the equivalent rules elsewhere. If you believe otherwise, please write and it will be fixed.

Analytics Apple provides

Apple gives every developer aggregate, anonymous figures about downloads and crashes for apps sold on the App Store, and parents can turn that off in Settings under Privacy and Security, then Analytics and Improvements. That reporting is Apple's, it is not personally identifying, and the app itself does not add to it or receive any data about individual users.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date. A change that affected what the app collects would also require a new version of the app, reviewed by Apple.
